Ex-members set up fund to help escaping members

My name is David T Pike. I am an ex-member of the Twelve Tribes destructive high control fundamentalist messianic group. I was in for 7 years and left in 2004. I have since been volunteering for the largest and most respected anti-cult website on the net. http://factnet.org/  I am now currently the Assistant Executive director and News Blog Editor. I have also been educating the public about 100s of different groups and there is not a month that goes by that I don’t get a call from concerned family members or Twelve Tribe curious folks that want answers to questions about the Twelve Tribes. Fortunately there are several great informative websites on the the Twelve Tribes and I also answer most of their questions. I know “cult” is a strong word and people are taken aback just by just it’s utterance but there is truly no better word to describe this group as you will read that this is truly what they are.

A handful of ex-members and I have created a site and we are going to try and help those members inside the cult to be able to leave. Twelve Tribes is what is called a “common purse” community where they share “all things in common” which means you don’t own anything, you don’t get a salary but all your basic needs are met. Barely. If that. Also that means when you leave you have nothing. You might get $100 and a bus ticket but by that time you have already alienated all of your friends and family because you have told them that they are going to hell because they haven’t joined the Twelve Tribes and the Twelve Tribes are the Holy and the only ones going to heaven! Members are worked 12 to 16 hours a day, 6 days a week sometimes 7. Modern medicine is shunned. Dentistry is frivolous. Children are switched with rods on their bare buttocks all day till they are blue.

They lose many of their young men because they get out into the “world” when they are working on construction crews. Most of these boys can build a house from the dirt up by the time they are 18. I mean all of it. Cement, framing, plumbing, electric, widows, roofing, everything! They have dreams of tools and trucks! So they have marketable skills and can get a job anywhere if they leave. The girls are sheltered from the world and all they can do are domestics. So they try to get these kids married and pregnant by 19. Harder to escape. We know for a fact that there are many there that want to leave but can’t because they have no where to go and no way to get there…

All this can be learned at our site. http://question12tribes.com/
There are other sites too. http://twelvetribes-ex.org/
and http://yattt.blogspot.com/ . A friend of mine in Ithaca knew of them and didn’t want them moving into his town… http://iottc.blogspot.com/. The professionals call them a cult. http://www.neirr.org/mcconclu.html http://www.apologeticsindex.org/2702-twelve-tribes
If you read this checklist you could check evey box off for the Twelve Tribes. They could be the poster child for cults. http://csj.org/infoserv_cult101/checklis.htm

If you listen to the Twelve Tribes elders they will say we are all just bitter, disgruntled ex members but we are past that phase. We are just wanting to help our friends leave and to educate others so that they can make an educated decision if they are considering in giving up everything and joining them. now you may have heard of the FLDS Lost Boys and other “cults” that have left their respective groups that had ALL KINDS OF HELP! Even organizations created and houses built for them! We are only trying to raise enough to get these folks transportation, trip food money, a few days in motels while we try and find ex-members to put them up. Now remember when we ex-members come out, we have NO work history, No credit, nothing! So it takes a long time for us to get back on our feet and assimilate back into the “real world”. Yes I am beseeching ex-members and I know they will give what they can but I truly hope I reach you folks that can afford to help. I know it’s tight everywhere but just a few dollars from a lot of folks would do the trick!

The funny thing is that I was going to do this a few weeks ago and another friend of mine who actually built the website http://question12tribes.com/  suggested we start an emergency fund just in case but now we HAVE that emergency! The Go Fund me site gives you hints on how to write a good spiel and tells you to say how soon you need the funds. Actually as of today, we need them now. WE have a couple that has been kicked out of the cult. They call it “sent away”. Yes they do that. If you question any of their teachings and don’t repent for not accepting their way, your gone. You must have “total capitulation”. I hate to have to have come here this was with such urgency but there it is.

So please if you can find it in your heart, to help us help others escape a life of slavery. Mental, physical and spiritual.

God Bless and we all thank you so much! From those of us who are out and from those of who will be able to leave with your help… :)

PS please share this with your Facebook friends and email this link https://www.gofundme.com/TwelveTribesEscapeFund

Thank you!!!  :)

  1. Your motives appear good but how is a few days of hotel & food going to help.
The 12 Tribes are stronger than ever. The Yellow Deli’s are filling their coffers.
They are safe in the US, Canada, Australia, South America and a few other places. Only Germany has really cut them off.
You say you left in 2004 – how many deli’s and storefronts did they have then??
In the last 10 years they have tripled what they did in the first 30.
If you ask 9 out of 10 patrons (potential sheep)they probably have no clue about them.
True the young men can easily leave and start up their own business, I now of many who can thank the 12T for the training they got.
The women might get housecleaning jobs if they are lucky.
Their businesses are what keeps them going and that is what you need to target.
